Taxes & Orders FAQ

We apply sales tax at checkout only where required by law (for example, in Florida, USA).

For international orders, VAT, customs duties, or carrier fees—if applicable—are determined by local authorities and may be collected at delivery.

When purchasing through Etsy, applicable taxes and import charges are often calculated and collected at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge sales tax?

Sales tax is a domestic tax applied at the time of purchase in certain regions.

We apply sales tax at checkout only where required by applicable law.

For example, sales tax may apply to orders shipped to Florida (USA).

If no sales tax is legally required for your location, it will not be added at checkout

What is the difference between sales tax and import taxes (VAT, duties)?

Sales tax is charged at checkout by the seller in certain regions (for example, some U.S. states).

Import taxes (such as VAT, customs duties, or handling fees) are charged when goods cross a border and are set by the destination country.

Sales tax and import taxes are separate charges, governed by different laws and collected by different authorities.

Why don’t you collect VAT or import taxes at checkout on your website?

We sell internationally from Ukraine and are not registered to collect VAT or import taxes in most destination countries.

In these cases, local regulations require import taxes — if applicable — to be assessed and collected by customs authorities or carriers at delivery, not by the seller at checkout.

Because of this, VAT, customs duties, or handling fees are handled locally rather than being collected by us in advance.

Will I have to pay additional charges when my order is delivered?

Possibly. Depending on your country and order value, local authorities or carriers may charge:

  • Import VAT
  • Customs duties
  • Carrier or postal handling fees

These charges are determined by local regulations and are outside our control.

Why is tax handled differently on Etsy?

Etsy operates as a marketplace platform and, in many regions, is legally required to calculate and collect applicable sales tax, VAT, or import charges at checkout on behalf of sellers.

As a result, Etsy customers often see more charges handled upfront, which can reduce additional fees at delivery.

Why might the price or checkout experience differ between your website and Etsy?

On Etsy, applicable taxes and import charges are often calculated and collected during checkout.

On our website, some of these charges—if applicable—may instead be collected by local authorities at delivery.

The difference is not the product, but how and when taxes are collected.

Which option should I choose: your website or Etsy?

Buy on our website if you prefer purchasing directly from us and handling any applicable import charges locally.

Buy on Etsy if you prefer applicable taxes and import charges to be handled during checkout where possible.

Both options offer the same products and quality.

Can I estimate how much I may need to pay in taxes or fees?

European Union (EU)

For orders delivered to the EU, additional charges may include:

Import VAT

Typically based on the destination country’s VAT rate and calculated on the value of the goods and shipping.

In many EU countries, VAT rates are commonly around 20–25%.

Customs duties

Often low or zero for many consumer goods, depending on product type and order value.

Carrier handling fees

A fixed or variable fee charged by the postal service or courier for customs processing.

Final amounts are determined by EU customs authorities and the delivery carrier at the time of import.

United Kingdom (UK)

For orders delivered to the UK, additional charges may include:

Import VAT

Usually charged at the standard UK VAT rate on the value of the goods and shipping, depending on order value and applicable rules.

Customs duties

May apply depending on product type and declared value, but are often minimal for small consumer orders.

Carrier handling fees

Charged by the courier or postal service for customs clearance.

These charges are assessed by UK authorities and collected by the carrier upon delivery.

United States (US)

For orders delivered within the United States:

Sales tax

Applied at checkout only where required by law (for example, Florida).

Import charges

Most consumer orders shipped to the US do not incur additional import VAT or duties, depending on value and product type.

Any applicable charges are determined under U.S. import regulations and carrier rules.

Does Etsy work differently for estimating costs?

Yes. When purchasing through Etsy, applicable sales tax, VAT, or import charges are often calculated and collected at checkout, depending on the buyer’s location.

This can make the total payable amount clearer before completing the purchase.
